Inculcate Children Interest in Reading
How did you do that, crazymommy ? Nikita is only 2yrs plus but check out those books she had read, Wow ! ! ! CM, you are indeed super!
I know the importance for children to start reading early but seem like I didnt enforce much to instil the interest in my children...
Currently my girls level are still at pictures. Whenever I take out a story book and try to read to them, they will keep pss... pss... (saying please), pestering me to let them have the book. They only enjoy filping those pages and not giving mummy chance to complete the story...

haha... those books are just books that we like. err... start early. we started reading to nikita since she was 5 mth old.
Picture books are more for young toddlers. If you want your children to love reading, you have to find books that are interesting. I find Nikita is more attentive when I read those rhymthic books. You might want to check out Eric Carle's "The Hungry Caterpillar". This book is really simple but catchy to young children's eyes.
CM, thks for the recommendation. I hv seen this title in babycenter web...hope I can find one in the bookstore here.
It is must be a daily routine reading? Their father was already reading to them everynight since they were just a foetus... but couldnt maintain it after they were borned due to his busy work schedule. If just purely have to rely on me, I find it very tough to read to two at a time. My children love books, they will always ask for books but not for reading, they just love flipping it and to their favourite picture before i can even finish reading one sentence...
So everytime I will just give each a book and try as much as possible to read the line whenever they pause on a page.
Can u visual I am juggling among the two hoping to read some lines out of two books... ended up they hv "rojak" story!
Hmm...I know I have to continue searching till I find a right book that can make them sit down attentively letting me finish the whole story. But what discouraging is I cannot find many good books like what u hv recommended in most of our major book store here. I know there might be some specialist children book store out there.. but where are they hiding?
are you able to just read to one at a time? or twin like to stick to each other ah? I know it is definitely not easy to handle 2 young children.
My sister who is in Singapore, actually managed to get some good storybooks. In fact, she is the one who introduced me to the Hungry Caterpillar book. It is not cheap, but it is quite a good book. Maybe you can check out ebay to get the used copy. I am lucky... i got mine from yard (garage) sale at a great bargain price of $0.50. hehehe...
Anyway, if she is online (IM) one of these days, I would ask for you where she got her books from. :)
Yes, it is a daily routine for us to read to Nikita. Now that Nikita is so big already, she actually bring the books to us and pester us to read to her, even when we said we are too tired to read to her. -_-
