Happy Birthday to you, Hubby!

Just collected this cake from The Patissier.
Pretty isnt it? Dont guess, it's very yummy too.
Cant wait till tonight the daddy cut the cake then we can savour it!

I find the big bow around the cake especially a charming trait, like a sweet little girl on a dainty little dress.

This long feeler creature, known as shrimp or prawn, used to be just a many leg creeper to the girls. But eversince they turn 3, this being many of us delicacy, turn to be their favourite food too! Heh heh heh...

Berry girls

Seem like it's the berry season in US again. Lately we can get extremely sweet berries from our supermart and this must try brand, Driscoll's long stick strawberry, the berries are SO HUGH and SWEET : o

It's 2x the size of the normal strawberry but the smaller one is also very sweet : )

Pineapple tart

富贵花开

Dong dong dong chan! Dong dong don chan! CNY is coming!!

Have been very busy with the house chores, have not start spring cleaning yet... But still, I must make my favourite New Year pastry, PINEAPPLE TART !

Im not very particular with the pineapple filling, as long as it's not too sweet. But I am very choosy with the pastry. Be it 金枕头 or 富贵花开, I like it very buttery & flaky so when you dump it into your mouth, it'll just.... Mmm... melt away... and not too sweet so you wont feel disgusted even indulge with many helping.

But after running in & out so many bakery shop, I just couldnt find one bakery that bake to my liking, so sad : (

Just when I feel so deprive, my fren came asking me interested to make pineapple tart...

Huh? Make my OWN PINEAPPLE TART??!

"Yah lar! I have all the material. You just need to 搓，能搓多少，就拿多少! "

Wow why not? and I always like baking... and I never regret spending whole afternoon kneading but just made 1 jar of tart...

While baking, the rich buttery smell already make my heart melt. The moment the timer went buzz... I cant wait to bite the still piping hot pastry and... Mmm... yummlicious! I finally found my tart tart! I was jumping with joy! Heh heh heh!

Pastry

100g QBB PURE GHEE

100g BUTTER

25g ICING SUGAR

2 EGG YOLKS

1/2 tsp SALT

350g PLAIN FLOUR

Sweet Bun

Found this traditional bread bakery near whampo market. And they are still baking bread & sweet bun taste as good as those I had during my childhood days!
I extremely like this sweet bun. So yummy that can eat it plain but still best with thick layer of chilled butter!

Complaint Queen

We love Double Chocolate Chewy ice-cream. However beside the ice-cream parlour, it's quite difficult to find in our supermart selling this in tub.

One day, during my usual grocery shopping at the supermart, I was trying my luck then, combing through the chiller and surprisingly, this gelazia caught my eye! Dark Chocolate Gelato... Heehee... cant believe my luck, happily I grab home one.

The Verdict
Hmm... It's not as chewy but I love it for it's not very sweet. Simple comment huh? Well, I think my girls will have more comments...

Usually I will make one ice-cream cone and share with the girls. So we are taking turns to "lick" but Clarabelle is always a fast eater, you know, 猪八戒吃寿桃不知道寿桃甜, the kind that finish the food without knowing the taste. When is her turns, instead of licking the gelato, she puts the whole cone into her mouth and bite off a big part! Whereas Abella is the gentle one, just tapping some with her tongue. Seeing that, I feel that Abella is eating less, so when about to finish, I gave Abella the remaining small biscuit cone... it was as small as 1cm only. Happily Abella gallop it and announced "no more!".

Clara protest and ask: Qijing, dont have???!
me: You ate alot already. Just now you bite very big mouth.

And asked the maid to clean them up and give them water in the room... then Abella came telling me Qijing dont want to drink water and drag me into the room...

Clara saw me and remarked : Qijing dont have ice-cream, Weiwei have ice-cream, Weiwei finish the ice-cream, Qijing dont want to drink water...

but after that she finished the water.

Hahaha! This little girls know how to complaint already huh?

Huat Kweh

If u dono what is *Huat kweh, this is the one. If you know it but, Chey! What's the heck ? ! !
Please allow me to introduce this particular one though looks typical but taste extremely good than the usual one!

Nomally my mum will buy this type of kweh for praying during some festival, for good luck & good fortune. And normally we have to eat a symbolic portion so as the good thing will befall on us. Then normally this type of kweh texture is hard (due to mass production to meet demands) and taste unpleasant (what kind of gourmet can expect from a mixture of flour, sugar and some colouring?) but surprisingly this one is extremely fluffy, taste and smell good! It's contain egg and has tint of guru melaka making the sweetness just nice, Mmm... yummy! Even the hubby, who is not a cake man also leave good comment too. So the next day, my doting mummy bought this extra large Huat Kweh for me! Haha!

The cake shop is located at Jurong East market. They make coffee flavour & original egg kweh that come in mini size which taste equally good too.

*Huat Kweh (read in hokkien) = 发糕 (in mandarin) steam type of cake normally is brown or orange colour. Ingredient: flour, raising flour, sugar and permitted colouring.

Abella's liking

Abella love spaghetti. I had never see her open her mouth so wide at normal meal but not when that day lunch was served spaghetti, hers was as wide as a lion! Even her mouth is full till she may have difficulties chewing later, still she continue sucking the noodle and refuse to break it. She had never chewed and swollow so fast too and kept prompting me for more. I think she is like me, like noodle more than rice.

Afternoon Tea Session...

I love the thought of afternoon tea session, be it at home, a cosy corner with a full window scenery or the afresco coffee club, watching people passing by and even at this hawker stall which served nice coffee, tea and toasted bread, comparable to Ah koon but at the price of half only :p

Durian Season is here!

Yummy! The durian season is finally here! This is the first time the girls are trying durian and no doubt, they love it just like mummy does :q Freshly pry the thorny husk, see the dark yellow, thick mushy fruit, quick, put it in your mouth, hmm... so creamy rich, bitter sweet... *eye wide* chew ji (small seed), Yummy! Good till licking fingers!

Durian is the king of tropical fruit and mangosteen is the queen. Durian is a very "heaty" fruit so "heaty base" people are advice to take mangosteen (cooling) after eating durian to neutralise the body heat. Alternatively, can also keep the husk of the durian to contain some salt and disolve with tap water then drink it! I am a "cooling base" person, so no matter how much durian I had ate, still I dont get sore throat. However, I love the drink from the durian husk! Cooled man!

I love to eat my durian chilled too! Especially durian is a high cabohydrate food, very filling... the max I can eat is about 10 seeds. So the remaining, I will chilled it for next day serving and it taste like ice-cream :q

I do have some dislike about durian... that is the expired smell left on your fingers the next day, no matter how much detergent you have soak in, the smell just dont go off. Only after 2 days... then it goes off naturally and quitely. Another thing is the urine, normally after eating durian, your urine will looks very yellowish with tint of expired durian smell, so dont be alarmed, just remember to drink more water.
Beside the exotic taste I loved about durian, durian is good for me when I have my menses cramp, better than taking panadol... amazing right?

But advise for gout and diabetes patients and extremely "heaty" people, please eat sensibly, ok ;)

My Spaghetti...

Stumble onto this photo when looking for my girls past photo... Hey, how can I have forgotten about it, my Spaghetti Vongole... whatever...

Being lazy i didnt note down the receipt, but roughly remember there are clams, dried chilli padi, garlic,black pepper, white wine and the cooking method.

Dont remember that day reason but was having crave for Spaghetti, especially after seeing crazymommy blog on her Spaghetti Vongole.

Ok, check the ingredients available in house...

1. Fresh clams, definately have to get from supermart
2. Dried red chilli padi, well the fridge have some fresh chilli, bought quite some time ago, shd be dried by now :p
3. Black pepper, tick
4. Garlic, tick
5. White wine? Well red wine shd be fine too...

so off I go, to buy the fresh clams only. I bought some pepper and button mushroom also, I love veggie. And when all the preparation are done, heehee, Big chief show time!

Ha, if anybody scold me, pls dont ! Im not a forte in wine, infact I dont drink not even cocktail... most probably the wine had spoilt the dish, I shdnt have compromised but well, I still finished it all, by myself and my poor maid.... :p

(Hubby? couldnt make it home for dinner, so we finished it all :q, it still edible lah... just very spicy... to much pepper and dried chilli, basically is black pepper taste....)

The story of Vitasoy

Today I let my girls try new product, children soya bean milk fortified with vitamins, less sweet, suitable for toddler as it is only 125ml, small pack, easier to hold & less wastsage.

For trial, I let the two of them to share 1 pack. Abella is asking clarabelle for the drink. Clarabelle is ignoring Abella as she enjoy the drink very much.

Finally Clarabelle is willing to offer...

Taste good right? Ok now is my turn.

Anxious Clarabelle decided not to wait and self service...
